Bulgaria

Bulgaria has a unique geographical position. It is situated in the remote southeast corner of Europe- the Balkan Peninsula. The territory of the country is comparatively small - only 111.000 sq m yet it is the crossing point of three bio-geographical regions.

Sunny Beach

Sunny Beach is generally regarded as Bulgaria's largest and best beach resort, and attracts visitors from all over Europe. It's cleanliness and value for money make it an attractive holiday destination.

The resort is a 7Km stretch of golden sand on the Black Sea with summer temperatures of between 30-35 degree C. Water temperature reaches a warm 23-25 degree C.

Sport activities in resort include sailing, windsurfing, para sailing, scooter-driven parachuting, speed boating, pedal boats, water skiing and beach volleyball. During the night there's a variety of floorshow acts, casinos and clubs/discos.

The resort is filled with eating establishments with a wide variety of cuisine. Bulgarian BBQ meals are very popular. Food and drink is incredibly cheap.

Children are very well catered for and many restuarants have play areas to keep young ones happy while you enjoy a meal.

The resort offers plenty of shops which offer both originals and copies of various items.

Golden Sands

Golden Sands resort is situated in the Golden Sand National Park and is 18km from Varna airport.

There are numerous shopping arcades and outdoor bazaars.

The resort has a range of restaurants, cafes, snack bars and local tavernas that serve a wide variety of first-class international cuisine as well as traditional Bulgarian dishes at reasonable prices. Bulgarian wine and brandies appear on most menus.

A wide range of beach bars, discos and nightclubs keep the action going until the early hours. A casino will satisfy the gambling spirit and there is always a variety of shows and entertainment to be had.

The resort offers a huge array of activities for adults and children, both in and out of the water. Available are indoor and outdoor swimming pools, some mineral, including waterslides; tennis and volleyball, bowling, mini-golf, fitness centres, horseriding and cycling. A wide range of watersports includes yachting, jet skis, waterskiing and a scuba diving centre. For the more adrenaline seeking, hang-gliding and parasailing is offered. A balneology centre provides treatments and medical programmes for those avid for a bit of pampering or seeking healing.

Nessebur

Nessebur is one of the oldest towns in Europe, have emerged as a fortified Thracian settlement over 9,000 year ago and having changed hands many times before being captured by the Bulgarians in the 7th Century.

The resort itself is a popular tourist attraction, it charms visitors with its narrow cobblestone streetn, period wooden houses, courtyards, taverns and romantic atmosphere. It's famous for its medieval churches, with beautiful facades and well presented interiors.

Nessebur has no shortage of restaurants, cafes and taverns. The most alluring restaurants are along Roussalka and Tsar Ivan Assen Streets on the southeastern tip of the peninsula. Neptune Restaurant is the best for fresh fish and offers splendid sea views.

The mega-resort of Sunny Beach is just two miles (3km) away and offers an excellent nightlife for those seeking more entertainment than Nessebur can offer.

There are two beaches near the new town as well as the nearby beaches of Sunny Resort, which also offers all the activities of a large-scale tourist resort. The old town is full of architectural monuments, ancient churches and museums to explore.

Albena

Albena is a well established purpose built resort and is characterised by large hotels. The resort targets budget to middlemarket visitors.

Most of the accommodation in resort is 3 star. The 21 storey, 4 star hotel Dobrudja dominates the centre and is easily the largest hotel in town and its health spa and nightclub are popular venues.

The beach is by far the best aspect of the resort, with 4 miles of broad golden sand which is lines with a variety of snack bars and ice-cream stalls. There's a choice of water sports including motorised 2-man hang-gliding and paragliding. The sea is child friendly and there are occassional lifeguards on duty.

Shopping is limited to locally produces handicrafts, linen, bootleg CD's and paintings. The small Bazaar shopping precint offers little more than a few shops selling local souvenirs and alcohol.

During the day the beach is the main attraction in resort, and various watersports keep you occupied. There's an indoor bowling centre, kids soccer school, horse riding centre, golf and tennis school.

During the night the hotel bars are lively, and the most popular nightspot is the Hotel Dobrudja's basement nightclub.

Bourgas

Bourgas is a lively, compact city, its pedestrianised boulevards and outdoor cafes giving it a distinctly Mediterranean ambience. The resort boats a long beach, with Marine Park alongside it a popular strolling area.

The beach is fairly low key for swimming and strolling, and the strong winds make good conditions for windsurfing.

The Small town with its pedestrianised streets makes it easy to explore, with a few pleasant museums and galleries. The Bourgas Opera House has performances all year round, and during the summer the city hosts a plathora of festivals including the Annual Summer International Folklore Festival at the Open Air Theatre.

The attractive and well-maintained Promorski Park (also known as Sea Garden) is always popular with families, with a small fairground at the southern end, with dodgems, a merry-go-round, a bouncy castle and a helter-skelter. Towards the middle of the park a decent kids playground includes tiny battery-operated cars for very young children, a sand-pit and swings. There are plenty of wonderful ice-cream stalls for children of all ages!
